The archipelago of Roslagen consists of thousands of islands extending into the Baltic Sea. Through the centuries boats and the sea have been an integrated part of the life in Roslagen.
Farmers sailed their products such as salted fish to the markets. In the 19th century a period of shipbuilding begun in Roslagen. Three-masters built here, like schooners and barks, then sailed the oceans of the world.
Later the steamships loaded iron and paper rolls in Roslagen and unloaded coal. The modern passenger traffic between Sweden and Finland was started in Roslagen.
How to get to the Museum

By car: Drive through Norrtälje to road 76 towards Grisslehamn. Continue on road 283 towards Grisslehamn. About 30 km from Norrtälje you reach Älmsta. You will see a sign-post to the right saying "Roslagens Sjöfartsmuseum". After a few hundred meters a new sign-post will show you the last turn before you are there.
By bus: From Stockholm you first take bus number 676 to Norrtälje. Then continue by bus 636 or 637 to Älmsta. The driver can help you to get off at the correct stop in early Älmsta.
By boat: The museum is close to the Väddö Canal and you can moor at our jetty.

The Maritime Museum covers all aspects of the maritime history of Roslagen. The Museum is open June, July and August all days except Midsummer Eve.
Opening hours are 10.00 - 16.00.
